The boys and Jake had a blast playing trampoline basketball, field football, and having snacks on the deck.
Jake is a good friend. The other day when the twins came home from Christian's birthday party, they told me about the good examples of any of their friends who were playing sports at the party there. They said one of their friends took responsibility and said "sorry - I didn't mean to hurt you" when he accidentally hurt another friend. They also told me one of their friends helped Dane when he got hurt, and the boys showed great sportsmanship on the field. It is amazing to get to raise children in an area where we are surrounded by so many awesome families who are modeling empathy, personal responsibility, teamwork and kindness to their kids, who in turn show it to each other. Thankful💙💜

Love this common bedtime scene. Since we got them portable reading lights, they spend lots of time reading in bed right after the lights go out. Historical fiction is the Dane and Jonah's favorite, with our recent discovery of the "I Survived..." series, and Will is loving his Kids National Geographic books about nature.

This chic can charge up a mountain like no other. She gets a goal in her mind, and I can almost see the turbo fire coming out of her shoes as she propels herself up the trail with power and strength. We get to talk, laugh and breathe fresh air on these walks - backed by a stunning sunset and getting to be with just Liza, it was a purely delightful evening!
Although I love pushing my physical limits, running races is about so much more than personal athleticism. The half marathon that Janalynne, Amy, Brittney and Nikki ran with me Saturday was inspiring on so many levels. I love looking ahead to streets packed with thousands of runners, hearing the rhythmic pounding of shoes all around me (I even turned off my headphones to take it in), and most of all, being reminded of the strength of the human soul by watching others struggle through challenges that I don't know how I would face, to cross the same finish line that I did without those limitations. They are the strong ones - the overweight, the kids, the scoliotic who have to walk because they can't run anymore, the strong elderly showing so much fortitude in taking on a challenge like this. I was totally inspired - not by the strongest bodies or the fastest times, but by the many true athletes and heroes I got to run with who were not letting personal physical challenges stop them from accomplishing what is even difficult for the very healthy. In the race of spirit, these people take the medals all day long in my book.
